Workspaces

Floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, rolling library ladders, fitted studies and home offices — crafted with a level of detail that makes a room genuinely special.

Bespoke Libraries & Workspaces

Bespoke home libraries and fitted bookcases

Floor-to-ceiling home libraries and fitted bookcases designed around your collection and your room. We build full-wall libraries, reading nooks, library ladders and study joinery in painted and timber finishes for homes across London and the Home Counties.

Every library is made by hand with adjustable and fixed shelving, integrated lighting and details like fluted panels, glazed doors and curved ends. We work around windows, doors and chimney breasts so the wall reads as one.

Questions about
libraries & workspaces

Not covered here? Call us on 01494 261 564 — we'll answer straight away.

How do you design a library to accommodate a rolling ladder?
The ladder rail is continuous along the full width of the shelving, fixed at a consistent height. The shelving return at each end incorporates a rail stop. The ladder itself is specified to the height of the shelving with a step rail near the top for safe reaching. We design the structural fixing of the rail into the ceiling or cornice as part of the overall shelving scheme.
What shelf depth should I specify for a library?
We recommend 250mm for paperbacks, 300mm for hardbacks and 350mm for oversized art books and coffee table books. For a library with a mixed collection, we typically design two or three shelf depths within the same unit — deeper shelves at the bottom where large books naturally sit, shallower shelves above.
Can a home office be designed to look like something else when not in use?
Yes — this is one of our most popular requests. A desk that folds away, concealed behind panelled doors that look like cabinetry or a wardrobe. A study that presents as a library or sitting room when the screens are closed away. We design these multi-function spaces regularly and the results are remarkably convincing.
Can you design library joinery for a room with a bay window?
Yes. Bay windows present a wonderful opportunity — a window seat within the bay, with shelving rising on either side and wrapping around to meet the main library wall. We design around the bay geometry to create a coherent, fully integrated scheme.
Do you supply lighting as part of a library commission?
We design and specify the lighting as part of the joinery scheme and coordinate with your electrician for supply and installation. Integrated cornice lighting, under-shelf LED strips, reading spots and display lighting within glazed sections are all options we incorporate regularly.

A well-made library makes a wall of books feel like part of the architecture.
