Bespoke
Staircases

Statement staircases in oak, walnut and hardwood — open-riser, glass balustrade, traditional or contemporary. Each one a centrepiece built for its home.

Bespoke Stairs

Bespoke timber staircases and understairs storage

Sculptural bespoke staircases designed and built in timber to become the centrepiece of your home — straight, winder and curved flights, with oak, painted or mixed-material finishes. Made and installed across London and the Home Counties.

We design to building regulations and your architecture, combining timber treads, glass or timber balustrades and clever understairs storage. Each staircase is hand-built and finished to a furniture standard.

Questions about
bespoke staircases

Not covered here? Call us on 01494 261 564 — we'll answer straight away.

Does a new staircase require Building Regulations approval?
Yes — new staircases and significant structural alterations require Building Regulations approval. We manage the process of submitting drawings for approval and ensure our staircase designs comply with current Regulations regarding tread dimensions, headroom, balustrade height and spindle spacing. We'll advise on any constraints at the design stage.
How long does it take to build and install a bespoke staircase?
From design sign-off to completed installation, typically 8–12 weeks. Manufacturing takes 6–8 weeks in our workshop; site installation is 3–5 days for a standard straight-flight staircase and 5–8 days for a more complex design with a landing.
Can you refurbish an existing staircase rather than replacing it entirely?
Yes — staircase refurbishment is one of our most popular services. Fitting new solid oak treads and risers to an existing structure, replacing the balustrade and handrail, and repainting the risers can transform the appearance of a staircase for significantly less than a full replacement. We'll survey your existing staircase and advise on the best approach.
What's the most popular staircase style you make at the moment?
Currently the most requested design is an open-riser oak staircase with slim vertical steel spindles — 12mm round or square section — and a continuous oak handrail. It works brilliantly in both contemporary extensions and renovated Victorian and Edwardian homes, and photographs beautifully.
Can you incorporate storage beneath the staircase?
Yes. We build bespoke understairs storage as part of a staircase commission or as a standalone project on an existing staircase. Options range from simple shelving with a hinged door, to a fully fitted home office or wine room with concealed access door that looks like part of the staircase panelling.

A staircase is the one piece of joinery everyone in the house touches every day.
